53 Man Roster

For whatever its worth, here is my take on what I think the 53 man roster could be.

Offense

QB (3) Peyton Manning, Kerry Collins, Curtis Painter.
Left out: Dan Orlovsky.

I feel like the Colts will go with 3 quarterbacks on the roster this season due to the surgery.  Painter is the long term backup, Collins is the short term solution. Orlovsky didn't work out.

HB (5) Joseph Addai, Donald Brown, Delone Carter, Darren Evans, Javarris James.
Left out: Chad Spann

Is 5 running backs too many? Addai is back because he's super valuable. Brown because he's under contract and the Colts don't give up on 1st rounders very easily. Carter is a pounder. James knows the offense better than the other two. Evans could return stuff (kicks and punts). I chose him over Spann because he has division one experience.

WR (6) Reggie Wayne, Pierre Garcon, Austin Collie, Anthony Gonzalez, Blair White, Taj Smith.
Left out: Chris Brooks, Lamone Moore, David Gilreath, Marshall Williams.

The first three are no brainers.  I think Gonzalez will get one last chance. When he's healthy he can do really good things.  White is a great back up, and very sure handed. Smith makes great contributions on special teams.  The left outs are, for the most part, left out due to number constrictions.

TE (3) Dallas Clark, Jacob Tamme, Brody Eldridge.
Left out: Mike McNeill, Tyson DeVree, Michael Matthews.

Clark and Tamme will catch passes. Eldridge is here to block. That's all.

OL (9) Jeff Saturday, Joe Reitz, Jacques McClendon, Anthony Castonzo, Ben Ijalana, Jeff Linkenbach, Ryan Diem, Kyle DeVan, Mike Pollack.
Left out: Jamey Richard, Jake Kirkpatrick, Mike tepper, Michael Toudouze.

I think DeVan will make it back because the Colts made it a point to resign him.  He has performed well when he needed to perform well.  Pollack is one of those guys that they are not ready to give up on yet.  Linkenbach and Castonzo, I believe, will be dueling for the starting LT position.  I think Ijalana has the RT position, and it is his to lose, if not Diem steps in.  Otherwise I think we see Diem at RG (Which I like a lot).  I think Reitz and McClendon are good, big, players and possible starters, but likely backups.  Saturday, as we all know, will be the starting center.

DL (9) Dwight Freeney, Robert Mathis, Jerry Hughes, Jamaal Anderson, Tommie Harris, Eric Foster, Fili Moala, Antonio Johnson, Drake Nevis, Ricardo Mathews.
Left out: John Gill, Ollie Ogbu, Tyler Brayton, John Chick

I think guys like Hughes and Mathews are guys that we have drafted that we are not yet ready to cut.  The front office saw something with them, and wants to groom them to be something one day.  Also all the recently signed people, Foster, Harris, Anderson, I believe will make the team.  I left Brayton, one of the recently signed guys, off because I have heard very little about him, and there are only so many openings needed on our Defensive End rotation.

LB (6) Gary Brackett, Pat Angerer, Ernie Sims, Adrian Moten, Kavell Conner, Philip Wheeler.
Left out: Nate Triplett, Kerry Neal, Chris Colasanti, Vuna Tuihalamaka

I believe Bracket, Angerer and Sims/Conner may be one of the best LB corps that we've ever seen in Indy. Just sayin'.

DB (9) Jerraud Powers, Jacob Lacey, Justin Tryon, Kevin Thomas, Chris Rucker, Antoine Bethea, Melvin Bullitt, David Caldwell, Joe Lefeged.
Left out: Al Afalava, Brandon King, Terrence Johnson, Michael Hamlin.

I love Powers and Tryon (though it seems the Colts prefer Lacey over Tryon).  I also love Joe Lefeged! Might he take over Bullitt's spot?

ST (3) Justin Snow (LS), Adam Vinatieri, Pat McAfee.
Left out: Travis Baltz

McAfee may have one of the strongest legs in the league.

There are my thoughts.  What do you think will happen with the 53 man roster?
